Danica Patrick wore an all-white Tax Act uniform to NASCAR's preseason media event, raising eyebrows about her sponsorship situation. Patrick and Stewart-Haas Racing last year signed a deal with Nature's Bakery as Patrick's primary sponsor. The company founded in 2010 by the father-and-son duo of Dave and Sam Marson was new to NASCAR last season and was scheduled to sponsor more than 20 races this year.

Edwards abruptly walked away from the final year of his contract with Joe Gibbs Racing two weeks ago. Team owner Gibbs informed his drivers of Edwards' decision on a Sunday night conference call, and nothing that Edwards has said since has helped them understand.

NASCAR overhauls race and playoff format (The Associated Press)
NASCAR is dramatically changing its format for the upcoming season, cutting every race into stages that reward points in hopes of make every lap matter. The third portion of the race will be for the overall victory, and although traditional point scoring will be applied for that stage, the win will be worth 40 points. - The winner of the first two stages of each race will receive one playoff point, and the race winner will receive five playoff points.

Benny Parsons made it to the NASCAR Hall of Fame because of his victories on the track and his work as a broadcaster after he retired. During his 19-year driving career, the man most everyone called ''BP'' won 21 races, including the 1975 Daytona 500, and the 1973 NASCAR championship.

Ford finally gets to publicly celebrate signing SHR (The Associated Press)
Almost a full year after signing Stewart-Haas Racing, Ford Performance is finally able to celebrate its new addition. Ford lured Tony Stewart's four-car operation away from Chevrolet early last year in a deal that begins this season. SHR and Ford announced the partnership nearly a year in advance, then had to wait as SHR fulfilled its contract with Chevy through the end of last year.

Carl Edwards steps away from NASCAR, avoids 'retirement' (The Associated Press)
Carl Edwards confirms that he is walking away from NASCAR this season. At a news conference Wednesday, Edwards listed three reasons for his decision to not race in 2017, most importantly that he's satisfied with what he's accomplished in his NASCAR career. Edwards deliberately did not use the word ''retirement'' in explaining his decision to leave Joe Gibbs Racing with one year remaining on his contract.
